¡Arriba Catalanes y Boricuas !

Last updated: August 10, 2024

Any day walking through the beautiful streets of Barcelona, you might find Catalans in the middle of a revolution—marching for independence. The fight for independence between Catalan nationalism and the Spanish state, as they say, “is like an encounter between an unstoppable force and an immovable object.” Read: A Brief History of Catalan Nationalism.

Spending some time in Barcelona and Europe, I’ve met many Catalans and have made many friends. I believe their strongest and most powerful argument is that they have their own language, parliament, flag, and anthem.

That’s beautiful.

I really enjoy walking the streets of Barcelona because, to some extent, I feel like I am walking the streets of my island, Puerto Rico. The Catalonia Estalada (flag) and the Puerto Rican flag are very similar, in fact, the Estelada was inspired by two flags, Cuba and Puerto Rico.

¡Well then, arriba Catalanes y arriba Boricuas!

Aquí tienes un enlace de Wikipedia para que leas sobre las diferentes esteladas de Cataluña y su creador, Vicenç Albert Ballester, quien se inspiró en las banderas de Cuba y de Puerto Rico para su creación.
